Our Story

This is our story: how St. Therese Institute of Faith and Mission came to be

Early days

The Holy Spirit has blessed and guided our institution from its beginning! In the early 2000’s, our founders saw how impactful Bible schools in Alberta and Manitoba were on the lives of their students; they saw a need for a vibrant, Catholic Bible school in Saskatchewan, too. With the blessing of Bishop Albert LeGatt, our Board of Directors was formed in June 2004. Planning for our Institute began, with much prayer.

Finding our building, naming our institute

On October 1, 2005, the name of St. Therese School of Faith and Mission was chosen. St. Thérèse of Lisieux seemed the perfect patroness for a school that wanted to do great things for God while remaining small and humble in rural Saskatchewan. Finally, in the summer of 2006, our beautiful home was purchased – an Ursuline convent in Bruno, SK., on 65 acres of land. What a blessing from God!

The first program year

In September of 2007, our program ran its first year of formation, with sixteen students from all walks of life. That first year we had week-long intensives until Christmas, then had regular classes for the second semester, and the year concluded with the students performing a play, which written by St. Therese, at the Eucharistic Congress in Quebec City.

Growing by Grace

Since then, our program has undergone many changes and experienced wonderful growth in student numbers. In 2013-14, we had our first year of running a second-year program in addition to the first-year program. The following year, we introduced Student Life Coordinators and Assistants, which later transformed into our STAY program.

Where are we now?

By the grace of God, we have had forty-six students this year and last. We are grateful to God and humbled by the opportunity to impart the gospel and the Little Way of St. Thérèse to more students next year as applications come in. This is our story and we hope that you will be a part of it! Join us as a studentSpring Course participant, or as a Donor!

Diocese of Saskatoon

St. Therese Institute has always operated with the blessing of our local Bishop. The Bishop of Saskatoon appoints a priest to our Board of Directors and our admin team meets regularly with the Bishop himself. See the Letter of Support written by our current Bishop, Mark Hagemoen! Our students also take opportunities to participate in events put on by other ministries in our diocese, such as Catholic Christian Outreach and Face2Face Ministries.
